Rudy's is my comfort place, that usual place you catch up with friends. Coffees, pizzas, pastas, I've tried my fair share of the menu, and I keep coming back. My most recent visit was before my kiwi flew off for a business trip, we whisked up for a comfort meal before heading to the airport.
The place is nice and spacious, with your choice of sitting outside or inside, near the front or tucked away in the back. Facing Bayview Terrace, which used to be the main part of Claremont, it's much quieter nowadays. You're still in the heart of Claremont but away from the major bustle of the shopping centre.
Meatballs, entrée size $16
We went for some simple pasta dishes, my kiwi ordering the meatballs. Considering we ordered entrée size, the servings were quite substantial. Delivered to the table was a small bowl of chilis, to be added for an extra kick if desired. Swirled into fettucine pasta, it hit the spot.
A small side of chili for customer's who want a chili kick to their pasta
I was also happy with the gnocchi, again entrée size, but quite filling. Homemade potato dumplings weren't too heavy and the chili I later added, gave a nice warmth to the dish. The meat may not have been the highest quality, but certainly didn't detract from the overall taste of the dish. It was finished with bocconcini and a sprig of basil, and I left quite content.
